Coffee beans or capsules: which do you choose?

Coffee beans or capsules, the choice can sometimes be tricky. We tell you the pros and cons so you can make an informed choice.

As true coffee lovers, we know all too well that nothing beats a great cup of coffee. But choosing between coffee beans and capsules can sometimes be tricky. Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages, and it is important to make the right choice for your personal taste and budget. At Catunambú we sell coffee in 3 different varieties, namely beans, filter coffee and capsules for nespresso and dolce gusto. In this article we will discuss the differences between coffee beans and capsules so you can make an informed choice.

Coffee beans: the classic choice

Coffee beans are the most traditional option when it comes to brewing a cup of coffee. The biggest advantage of coffee beans is that you can grind the coffee yourself, allowing you to choose the perfect grind for your personal taste. These days, many coffee machines grind the beans and all you have to do is set the grind. The taste of freshly ground coffee beans is more intense and complex than that of capsules, because the coffee releases more aromas during the grinding process.

Another advantage of coffee beans is that it is generally cheaper than capsules. If you start comparing per cup, you are often cheaper than using capsules. In addition, coffee beans are more environmentally friendly because you are not using disposables.

A disadvantage of coffee beans is that they have a limited shelf life after opening the bag. It is recommended to consume the coffee beans within 8 weeks after opening.

Capsules: quick and easy

Capsules are a good option if you want to make a cup of coffee quickly and easily. You don't have to spend time grinding the coffee beans because the coffee is already pre-ground and packaged in a capsule. This makes brewing a cup of coffee with capsules very easy and quick. Catunambú capsules are available in 2 different types: Dolce Gusto compatible and Nespresso compatible.

dolce gusto capsules

Another advantage of capsules is that you have a lot of choice in terms of flavors. We sell both varieties of cups in 5 different flavors. Moreover, capsules allow you to easily alternate between different flavors, depending on your mood or the occasion.

One disadvantage of capsules is that it can be more expensive than coffee beans. Capsules are generally more expensive than coffee beans, so if you drink several cups of coffee daily, it can be an expensive option. In addition, capsules are less environmentally friendly because you are using disposables and the capsules are not always recyclable.

Which choice should you make?

The choice between coffee beans and capsules depends on your personal preference, your coffee machine and budget. If you like an intense and complex coffee taste, and if you like to spend time grinding coffee beans, then coffee beans are the best choice for you. On the other hand, if you like speed and convenience, and if you like to alternate between different flavors, then capsules are the right solution for you.
