What is French Press Coffee?
French Press coffee, also known as cafetière or press pot, is a classic brewing method that brings out the full flavor and aroma of coffee beans. It is a simple but effective way to brew coffee, in which coarsely ground coffee is immersed in hot water and then filtered with a metal press. The result? A rich, full-bodied coffee with an intense flavor, perfect for those who love a potent cup of coffee.
The History of the French Press
Although the name “French Press” suggests otherwise, the origins of this coffee maker go back to both France and Italy. The device was first patented by Italian Attilio Calimani in 1929, but early versions of this brewing method were used in France as early as the 19th century. Because of its simplicity and ability to make a flavorful cup of coffee without much fuss, the French Press has spread worldwide and has become a favorite of coffee lovers looking for a pure coffee experience.
How to brew French Press Coffee with Catunambú.
At Catunambú, we believe that good coffee starts with the best beans. Our carefully selected and roasted coffee beans are perfect for the French Press. Here is a simple step-by-step plan to brew the perfect cup of French Press coffee:
Ingredients:
- A French press
- Catunambú coffee
- Coffee grinder
- Hot water (just below boiling point, about 93-96°C)
- A scale and coffee spoon
- A timer
How to Make a French Press Coffee:
Grind the Catunambu coffee beans: For best taste, we recommend grinding the Catunambú beans fresh just before brewing the coffee. For a standard French Press (of 1liter), you will need about 60 grams of coffee, or 1 gram per 15 ml of water.
Heat the French Press: Rinse the French Press with hot water to preheat it. This will keep the coffee from cooling too quickly during brewing.
Put the coffee in the French Press: Add the coarsely ground Catunambú coffee to the bottom of the French Press.
Pour the water: Slowly pour the hot water over the coffee. Make sure all the coffee grinds are in good contact with the water. Then let the coffee bloom for about 30 seconds (this means the coffee opens up and releases its flavors).
Stir and wait: Stir the coffee briefly so that the ground coffee is in full contact with the water. Then put the lid on the French Press (without pushing the press down) and let the coffee steep for 4 minutes.
Push the press down: After 4 minutes, gently push the press down. This separates the coffee from the coffee grounds.
Pour and enjoy: Pour the coffee directly into your favorite cup and enjoy the rich flavor that makes Catunambú coffee so special.
Why Catunambú and the French Press are a Perfect Match
Catunambú coffee is known for its robust, full-bodied flavor and sophisticated aromas. These qualities come out perfectly when you brew the coffee with a French Press. By using coarsely ground beans, the coffee oils are retained, creating an intense and full-bodied character in your cup. Moreover, using the French Press ensures that you taste all the nuances of the coffee beans, with no filters to alter the flavor.
